Vixay Software Engineer / Full Stack Developer

I build and run reliable software, from React front ends to cloud infrastructure, and untangle the systems in between.

About

Theodore with his family and their two golden retrievers

I'm Theodore, a Portland-based software engineer with more than six years of experience across full-stack development, site reliability, and production support at Nike, New Relic, and Masterlinq.

I do my best work when I own a system end to end: building it, keeping it healthy in production, and fixing it when the data or integrations get messy. I care about security, observability, and leaving codebases better than I found them.

Experience

  1. Software Engineer 3 · Masterlinq

    May 2026 – Oct 2026
    • Owned production reliability for a multi-tenant e-commerce platform (.NET, React, MongoDB, Azure), fixing recurring crashes and slowdowns and introducing warm-up deployment slots.
    • Found and fixed a cross-tenant script-injection vulnerability and led an authorization audit that uncovered 57 unprotected admin endpoints.
    • Stabilized order posting to retailers' Ascend and Lightspeed POS systems across 30 accounts, fixing blocked queues, tax and discount errors, and duplicate orders.
    • Repaired supplier, payment, and shipping integrations (QBP, Stripe, ShipStation, Shopify), restoring 6,211 hidden products; built CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions and reviewed PRs across 12 repos.
  2. Digital Launch Engineer · Nike

    Nov 2023 – Jan 2026
    • Tier 2 support for e-commerce launches and peak events, analyzing logs, writing database queries, and supporting engineering teams.
    • Built Python-based Slack bots to automate alerts, workflows, and operational support.
    • Built observability dashboards in Splunk, New Relic, and SignalFx and tracked order fulfillment and inventory after launches.
  3. Software Engineer II · New Relic

    Sep 2020 – Jun 2023
    • Developed features in Node.js, React, and Ruby on Rails on a Kanban team, deployed with Docker and Kubernetes.
    • Led multiple projects through the full development lifecycle with stakeholders and product management.
    • Used Terraform to automate deployment of alerts, dashboards, and services for better fault tolerance and deployment history.
    • Mentored and onboarded new team members. Promoted from Associate Software Engineer to Software Engineer II.
  4. Site Reliability Engineer · Nike

    Mar 2018 – Sep 2020
    • Grew from QA engineer intern to SRE intern to Site Reliability Engineer.
    • Built features in C#, Angular, Java, Node.js, and React on Azure and AWS.
    • Implemented monitoring and alerting with SignalFx and Catchpoint, and automated data validation with Postman scripts.
  5. Senior Technical Support · Portland State University

    Jan 2019 – Mar 2020
    • Coordinated and trained more than 80 student volunteers providing Tier 1 IT support at the Computer Action Team, and handled Tier 2 escalations.

Projects

HomeCal

A self-hosted family calendar kiosk I'm building as a DIY replacement for a Skylight wall calendar. A TypeScript sync worker pulls Google Calendar and iCloud events (including recurring events and time zones) into MongoDB, and a TanStack Start app renders month, week, and day views on a wall-mounted screen. The whole stack starts with one Docker Compose command, and only the worker ever sees calendar credentials.
